The story & symbolism
The ruler of the woodlands, the wolf. Soend comes from Estonian and is a name given to wolves, the belief was back then that if you say ‘wolf’ out loud it will make a wolf appear. So people had different names for referring to wolves, like ‘the gray one in the forest’ ‘the anger of the forest’ and so on - Soend is one of the names given. The word itself means a type of werewolf, a person that can shapeshift into a wolf and back to human. In Estonian folklore there are many tales of people ‘running with the wolves’ and ‘to go run with the wolves’ supposedly they would go at times of the year and live as wolves in the forest.
The name soend comes from ‘susi’ which is another name given to wolves, and the -nd ending means a person basically, like words ‘emand’ - queen/lady and ‘isand’ - king/lord. Thus meaning soend is a person that is assuming the aspects of the wolf.
