The story & symbolism
The ancient tradition of entering manhood for young boys, riddled with challenges of survival, defense and the ability to assimilate into a group, ready to carry through what is best for the whole but to also make decisions on your own. Sent out to exile, only those returning who can overcome the true wild and developing the ability to contain this wild within themselves, only manifesting it forward when needed
There is a lot of mystery around this concept, but perhaps even more hints. From sagas we read that Berserkers would be exiled from society, as they were deemed to wild, untamable people who have lost the human way, who have become like an animal themselves. They are like a wandering spirit that set on the way of the koryos but lost their senses, so perhaps more admirable are the ones, who went on the same journey but could overcome the cruel mother nature - they were welcomed back into society, as when war came, they were the wild beasts standing inbetween danger and their people, fearless, calm and ready
This picture is of an initiation ceremony of one young man from long ago embracing his duty, and beginning his journey on this path - and when he returns, the same bright shield of the sky will look down on him as a new man
