The story & symbolism
The fateweaving Norns of Norse Mythology. This is a bit different from my other god amulets as it features three beings on it at once, they can be worn by their hoods that connect at the top or used as an altar piece.The Norns themselves are mysterious. This design is based on the three main Norns that live under one of the roots of Yggdrasil and even though it's unclear if they represent the past, present and future I've depicted them as such on this design. Covered faces
It is unknown what the Norns look like, no one has seen their faces - therefore this design I've interpreted them with a veil and their hood covering their face
Roots of yggdrasil
As the Norns are said to reside under one of the roots of the world tree Yggdrasil therefore I've depicted their hoods as connecting roots of Yggdrasil, as it is said to have had 3 roots.
Urdr
Depicted here as the past, she is seen with a book closed in her arms. This symbolizes that she has finished writing her chapter, the book can be opened and read but it is complete and written, nothing can be added to it.
Verdandi
She is seen with the book open, still writing and reading history as it happens in the present. This is why Verdandi here represents the current state, the present.
Skuld
She is seen with a pen, this means that we don't know what the cover of the book will look like nor has she written anything down yet. She however has the ink in her pen and is ready to record down what will happen in the future, only she knows what is to come.
