The story & symbolism
This design is to honor the god Thor, the guardian of mankind and the everyday mans god. On this design like all of the "path of…" design I've incorporated the face of Thor on the back. On the rows are different stories of Thor, like the Fishing of Jormungandr, the cutting of Sifs hair and thus the birth of Mjölnir. The design is also sharp with 90 degree angles to symbolize thunder and the rough nature of Thor - a sharp and brutal fighter.
CATCHING JORMUNGANDR
There are rows of Thor fishing for Jormungandr with a ox's head. In this story when trying to capture the great beast he pushes his foot through the boat - which has also been depicted on runestones and artwork from the viking age. The catching of Jormungandr tale is also referenced on the back, on Thors helmet there are two serpents to both sides.
LOKI CUTS SIFS HAIR
In the story where Loki cuts Sifs hair, it ends up the gods punishing Loki and he promises to make up for it - he turns to dwarves to create magical items to the gods. But he cannot help but meddle in the middle and turns into a fly and annoys the dwarves. This results in the dwarves messing up the creation of Mjölnir, thats why Mjölnir has a short shaft. Thor also posesses a gauntlet and belt that give him strength and the ability to wear Mjölnir. Mjölnir also returns to Thor always when thrown, this likely is a reference to thunder - as a similar motif exists in Finnic tribes also where their thunder god has one hammer to strike with lightning and another to withdraw lightning.
THOR RECEIVES MJÖLNIR
In the middle on one of the rows it shows Thor receiving Mjölnir for the first time and it binding to him with a great spark, which symbolizes a great thunder storm.
FACE OF THOR ON THE BACK
On the back is the face of Thor with different elements of him - his eyeguard is fashioned to look like Mjölnir. On the edges of the eyeguards it turns into rams, as Thor posesses two rams that he can reincarnate as long as he doesn’t break their bones. There are also seprents on the top of his helmet, they look like whales as I believe the stories of Jormungandr come from the norsemen encountering whales.
