The story & symbolism
The Skog tapestry, aslo known as Skogbonaden, is a netted cloth, around 175 centimeters long and 35 centimeters in height. What this tapestry depicts is not known, there have been several theories. Since one of the three characters standing on the left side of the tapestry is missing an eye, it was thought it was Odin, Freyr and Thor. But it was determined that it had just worn off with time. It is also possible its some sort of three kings, as they are holding different objects - I will refer to them as the three kings. In the middle there seems to be a stave church with decorated beams and the nature of it can be debated as well. Most of the figures are not shown with weapons, but one of the kings is seen holding an axe and the temples in the middle show people in them ringing the bells while the people outside are shown with axes. This could possibly depict some kind of a raid or perhaps a ceremony, the people of the Viking age were known for their sacrificial rites - one being the Uppsala temple one that took place every 9 years, where people would sacrifice a sacred number of each animal and even people. So it could depict something like this or some event, we have yet to find out! Because the tapestry is a wider in real life than on the hoodie I had to simplify a lot of the depictions on it.
Stavechurch
This is a closeup of the temple I mentioned, also known as Stavechurches from the viking age and times before that. Some of these still remain to this day and are beautiful and remarkable constructions. It is believed they are based on the Viking ship design but upside down. Thats why they also have heads on the beams, often of mythological creatures.
Manyheaded figure
This is another enigmatic and interesting figure, as the same figure seems to appear on the Gallehus horns and some petroglyphs.
Three kings
The three kings I've mentioned above, we don't know for certain who they are or what they represent but considering that often in art, great figures, are depicted larger than others, as their deeds are seen more important and their individual presence must be highlighted, so we can say these were some importand people or deities
