The story & symbolism
This design features wolves around the pattern entangled in a loop. As I've based this on an archaeological find I cannot say for sure if these are Geri and Freki or perhaps Skoll and Hati. They do not do not seem to be eating the sun and moon so I doubt the latter and I'm not sure if the buckles/brooches we're indications of greed - perhaps. But it is strange that the design features two of them, I believe it's either another story we have lost or it's a coincidence that there is two of them and ofcourse these could be Geri and Freki. This design is considered under the Jelling style and I've named the item after that style as well but it could also be categorised under the Mammen style.
Skaill buckle/brooch
Dated to around the 8th to 10th century, it is believed to be made in the Isle of Man. It was rediscovered in Scotland buried in a box with a lot of other items by a boy chasing rabbits in March of 1858. The design features what seems to be two wolves, people have speculated these to be dogs as well but considering other designs from that time period then I don't think these are dogs - wolves were depicted like this on many buckles and pendants.
JELLING WOLVES
A closer look of the wolves on the design within the knotwork. They are seen biting into the knots and with their tongues out as in a wild berserker fury, which also inspired berserkers like the ulfhednar to possess these abilities when they wore wolf pelts to battle.
The story & symbolism
The word Erilaz / Erilar appears again and again in inscriptions. It usually comes along with "I, Erilaz, have carved these runes…" so that leads us to believe that it had something to do with proficency in writing the runes or carving them. Perhaps it also carried some magical connotations, as someone who could write and read would be pretty magical during those times, as runes were used for spells and such. How I've thought about it, is if you imagine writing runes to something like being able to code nowadays - writing a bunch of words and having a machine do something is pretty magical imo.

So this design is for those who also are familiar with this title and would like a more subtle way of hinting at their knowledge, this is part of my smart-casual collection so it is not as screamingly RAA I R VIKING but if you wear this out and others who know about this will understand the refence and that could be a great conversation starter!
ERILAZ
The title Erilaz is written in elder futhark again and again on the design, you can think of it as a visual chant of this magical profession, title or name
