The story & symbolism
The god Vidar is somewhat of a mystery. His name could mean something like the wide ruler or the one from the forest, he is also known as the avenger and the silent god. A ritual of silence that likely dates back to very ancient times and Vidar is said to be one of the strongest gods, only behind Thor in terms of strength. He is also the one at Ragnarök to kill the giant wolf Fenrir thus avenging his father Odin. Vidar is also one of the only few who survives Ragnarök and takes over his father duties as the chief after it.
Frontside
Wearing a cloth in front of his mouth is symbolism of his silence as he never speaks. He also has a helmet with plates on it like we've found through archaeology - this is reference to his ruler status as well as him holding a sword accompanied by wolves to both side.
Worn by the neck
Like all the male gods I've done he is worn by the neck and decorated with a furcoat and chainmail armor on the back to symbolize his ruler status and the fact that he is one of the strongest gods.
Gosforth cross depiction
On his back can be seen the Gosforth Cross depiction of what likely is Vidar, with a person fighting a giant wolf-like creature, stepping on the lower jaw with his foot like is foretold in the tale of Ragnarök.
