♙ Berserkers as Pawns
Inspired by the Lewis chess piece where a warrior is biting his shield. These symbolize berserkers as they are mentioned to do something like this before battle (also having the shield kicked into their mouth knocking their teeth out). Berserkers are said to either wear no armor to battle or completely transform into bears in battle and are often attributed to be followers of Thor.
♖ Brokkr & Eitri as Rooks
The two dwarves who created Thors beloved hammer Mjölnir. Brokkr and Eitri are the sons of Ivaldi and hardworking talented craftsmen.
♘ Tanngrisnir & Tanngnjóstr as Knights
Thors two goats are the knight pieces, they pull the chariot of the god Thor and thanks to Mjölnir Thor can revive these goats as long as their bones are not broken. Their names mean the grinding of teeth agains one-another and anothers name means wide gaps between the teeth.
♗ Mode & Magne as Bishops
The sons of Thor are the bishop pieces of the set, they are destined to get Mjölnir after Ragarok. Mode is the son of Sif and Magne is from the giantess Järnsaxa. The pieces wield powerful hammers themselves as an overall theme of the set where Thor is related to crushing things and offerings to the god are often crushed.
♕ Sif as the Queen
The wife of Thor and a respected powerful leader herself.
♔ Thor as the King
The powerful and most strong god himself. Inspired by the Thor amulet I have with the chess piece not having the neck hole and being an elongated version of it.
