The story & symbolism
The Överhogdal tapestry is one of the best preserved pieces of tapestries from Scandinavia. It features a lot of animals on it, some even with 8 legs, possbily depicting them as moving fast or references to Odins horse Sleipnir. The tapestry is also known to possibly show the world tree Yggdrasil on one of the sides. There are images of people in stave churches, ships, animals both normal and with great antlers and on one of the panels there are runes written upside down. We cant say for sure what event is depicted on the tapestry, perhaps its a ritual known as blót - where certain species of animals as well as humans were sacrificed to the gods. Perhaps its a mythological scene that to the people living in these times would instantly understand. We cant say for sure, but it is a remarkable find. Because the tapestry is a wider in real life than on the hoodie I had to simplify a lot of the depictions on it.
Yggdrasil
The Yggdrasil depiction, to the left of it we can see a gaming board, similar to chess. We know that the Vikings played a game known by many names, one of the names if Hnefatafl. The game was very similar to chess, so it's possibly a depiction of the board from that game. And there are people and animals depicted all around Yggdrasil as well as temples that seem to have been stave churches
