The story & symbolism
Sköll and Hati / Mockery and Hatered, chasing Sol and Mani (the sun and the moon). The chase is said to end at Ragnarok when the sky crumbles onto earth leaving the wolves to devour their prey. While it's not 100% sure who chases who, its most likely Skoll chases the moon and Hati the sun if we go by the Grímnismál. It's also speculated that they are the children of Fenrir or perhaps some other famous wolf.
