Old Norse translator
← BackI will continue adding translations and monitoring which translations you fellas are more interested in, so over time it will get more and more specific. I also plan to add a Old Norse to English translator along the way as well as other languages and for an ability to generate kennings as well. Kennings are basically 'riddle-like nicknames' and were very prevelant in Old Norse poetry known as Eddic and Skaldic poetry. A kenning is basically calling Odin a "raven-god" and so on.
The name Hoenir comes from a Norse god, one of three gods said to have created humans. Hoenir was the one that gave humans reason.
love this website. A show I watch called black clover had these words. So now I know what they mean
ᛁᚴ ᛅᚾ ᚦᛁᛏᛅ ᚢᛁᚠᛋᛁᛏᚱ, ᚦᛅᛏ ᛋᛁᚾᛏᛁ ᛘᚬᚾᚢᛘ ᛘᚬᛚ ᚢᚬᚱ, ᚦᛅᛏ ᚴᛁᚱᛁᚱ ᛋᚢᚬ ᛘᛅᚱᚴᛅ ᚢᚾᛏᚱᛚᛁᚴᛅ ᚼᛚᚢᛏᛁ, ᛁᚴ ᛅᚾ ᚦᚢᛁ ᛘᛁᚬᚴ
I love this website! It is extremely helpful for when I am writing stories and learning about this language! I really appreciate this website and what it does for so many other people. Thank you!
Mjǫk mikill verkfæri! Æðiliga nákvæmr, trúaðu mér á því. Ek er á leið til at berjask við Engilsmenn á bænum Stamfordabrú, óskaðu mér heilla!
im using this as name tags for my party members in DND and they will love it!
This is a great tool for writing and confusing people in dead langauges
on my seventh novel – this one set in the Viking days with Norse Mythology and found this very helpful in some of the dialog – heiðr fyrir lífi
Amazing
This is a really neat way to explore Old Norse without it feeling overwhelming, especially with the examples and rune context alongside the translations. Tools like this make it much easier to experiment with names and meanings when you’re writing or world-building. I’ve found something similar helpful when playing around with name ideas inspired by different languages and styles. Nicely put together overall.
Fantastic stuff, but now I want to hear it.
Glad to find you, I am curious, I like to learn.
ek elska þik
Buen traductor, pero tiene algunos errores
I have a book in old Norse and would like it to be translated into English . I wonder if you anyone can provide some lead. It looks like an autobiography.

Hi. Amazing resource thankyou! Would it be possible to get the font you use for the Elder Futhark translator? I cannot find any fonts online that have a complete alphabet. They all seem to be missing various letters/runes and so making correct inscriptions is becoming frustrating. I am a college student trying to make an inscription for a project. So ideally I would like a font I can use in Adobe software. Would that be possible?
Man, just want to say fine job in the site, easy to use and understand, and as someone who is “ODINIST, ASATRU” or however people want to put it now lol I
Appreciate the realness of it all. And the eng to Norse is absolutely amazing, been looking
For something like it for a while now. Good job.

As an Àsatrúar this is just incredible. Thank you so much for doing this. This makes it so much easier to write traditional Blötar. Especially with Freyr Faxi just a few days away.
Thank you.
My sister (in my opinion is the reincarnation of a Viking warrior and I’m sending her a birthday message in old Norse. She’s going to love it 😍
I have viking blood in me, some of my family members were vikings. I wanna learn more about Vikings, especially Runes….
This is so awesome! The only issue i have is Valhalla is translated as ‘Valhöll’ when I’ve seen mostly ‘Valhǫll’ Amazing translator, tho!

I learned a alphabet similar to Elder Futhark in this book called dragonology, and I’ve been trying to find the real-world version of it ever since. Three years, and finally I found this website. Thanks to whoever who made this!
Hey! This is amazing! Thanks for this, now I can do something useless but nevertheless fun! Maybe I might use this for a school project! ᚠᚨᚱ ᚢᛖᛚ!
Thank you for this! Can you give me any more information on verb conjugation? I’m messing around with the word “break,” and depending on the object, it can translate as either brjót, brjóta, or brjóttu
ᚦᚨᚲᚨ ᚦᛖᚱ ᚠᛁᚱᛁᚱ ᚨᛏ ᚷᛖᚠᚨ ᚦᛖᛊᚨ ᚺᛃᚨᛚᛈ

Am researching old Norse tattoo ideas, had a question?
So the Nordic symbol for the berserker-there isn’t really a symbol for it it there? Read about it representing a demonic binding ruin? Idk almost was going to get them, but not if that’s the case lol
Thank you, love the page!!

Phenomenal website, plan on buying some of the clothing when I’m able. An Old Norse to English option would be great!
Have some??? Found some family heirlooms old, how old not qualified 2 even guess some jewelry original with names in Rune , a old family sword gilded a bit and kinda engraved i Guess in Rune as well, really really odd rusted beyond repair. Bummer even I can tell it was once beautiful I bet so I’m a artist so I rubbed it for fine details then drew it like it was new. WoW I WISH SOMEONE WOULD HELP ME WITH THE TRANSLATION IF YOU GOT A SEC. PLEASE HELP ME FIGURE OUT THE TRANSLATION OR ORIGIN AT LEAST. THANK YOU.
This is absolutly great
I love it! keep it up!
just a couple things though, the dots are often in the wrong places, if they’re there at all. also, for Idunn, a norse goddess, there’s jotun, a giant! other than that, I love it! Im making a english and norse book, and its practicly my everything!
This website is great! I’m currently working on a high fantasy book and I am using Old Norse as the base for one of the languages. This website has been a huge help!
This is great! I have a wooden staff I was meaning to carve Psalm 23 on (“Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
I just have one question. How was punctuation handled?
Brilliant site, it would be brilliant if the site also spoke the translation too. I look forward to such a feature. Great work so far 😁
I just want to thank you for creating this very interesting and unique translator. I can’t stop playing with it’s different forms and it’s very cool. I am still learning and digging. I am of Austrian decent, which some say originated from the Celts. Very interesting. I am a fan of the early Norse mythology, and this is a fun tool, and very nice website. Thanks again!
Hi I love this website but can you something where you can translate HOENIR in to englis
This website is really great! I am a wood worker who often carves in the Old Norse style. I like to include titles, either in Icelandic or runes. Takk Fyrir!
Thanks for all the kind words so far and everyone using it! I’ve also fixed the “ý” as Firanto mentioned :)
This is cool. Anyway, I’d like to give feedback. The word “illuminate” is translated to “lýsa”. But apparently, the futhark/rune doesn’t have the equivalent for the “ý”, which means, “lýsa” will be written as “ᛚýᛊᚨ” in older futhark (notice the “ý” in the second character).
Great things anyway. Thanks.
my attempt to translate. plz view. https://youtu.be/a02EOzzDZdM
Neato!! I had a lot of fun with this!
Brilliant. Will facilitate comparisons with Icelandic. Thank you!
I can’t thank you enough for this webpage.
This is so cool!! I made many different words and sentences and compared them to dictionaries and it is the real deal! good job! will recommend this to everyone
